no dumping…..and simple mathematics.

I went on a hike today with my son. It was an urban natural adventure through the wild brush of San Francisco. We saw many many many dogs on leash and off, a few birds, lots of tourists, and plenty of free ranging wild fennel.

We left our neighborhood, with its poop littered sidewalks, and walked towards where the rich folks live up the hills. We found many signs like these:

And, there was none.

“Knock Knock.”
“Who’s there?”
“Pile Up.”
“Pile Up who?”

individually bagged poo – and you know it is doggie….in our neighborhood – the origin of the poo is always questionable…

As we climbed the stairs towards the tip top of a beautiful hill with beautiful houses…the small sage red head said…”Mama, you can slide down the stairs, but you sure can’t slide up.” Truth, in that. As the divide between the rich and poor grows larger – a neighborhood’s poo quantity and origin is only one sign…

Bob Herbert put it all too well the other day is his last column for the NY Times:

There is plenty of economic activity in the U.S., and plenty of wealth. But like greedy children, the folks at the top are seizing virtually all the marbles. Income and wealth inequality in the U.S. have reached stages that would make the third world blush. As the Economic Policy Institute has reported, the richest 10 percent of Americans received an unconscionable 100 percent of the average income growth in the years 2000 to 2007, the most recent extended period of economic expansion. Americans behave as if this is somehow normal or acceptable. It shouldn’t be, and didn’t used to be.

No it should not be.
